Bailiú Student Art Project

  • Mullingar Library Mount Street Mullingar, WH Ireland (map)

Inviting students from local schools to collaborate on an art piece for the festival, local artist Rachel Coyne hopes to encourage a sense of belonging and involvement from the children and teens in the community. Working with teachers, they will create a brief for the students to follow to create their interpretation of Bailiú with its roots in Bealtaine.

Students will be requested to create a an artistic piece to be involved in the Bealtaine procession at the Hill of Uisneach on May 11th and which will be exhibited to the public in Mullingar Library from April 29th to May 7th covering the duration of the festival. The public would be welcome to visit the library to see the students work which will also be seen from the road by the library during library closing times as they will be displayed in their large windows.

Students will be encouraged to create the sculptures using sustainable materials only, by using found materials from their own homes and communities. This is an exciting opportunity for local students to be part of their community and part of this growing festival.
