Join Dr. Paul Hughes as he recounts the historic 1918 election of Laurence Ginnell and the subsequent celebrations on the Hill of Uisneach. Dr. Hughes will be joined on the night by Ali Morris who will give a short talk on Jennie Wyse Power, who was a contemporary of Ginnell.

Dr Paul Hughes is a Mullingar-based historian who was awarded a PhD in History from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2018, for his thesis entitled ‘The Irish republican activism of Laurence Ginnell, 1916- 23’, which he is currently turning into a biography of Ginnell. He was Westmeath County Council’s Decade of Centenaries Historian in Residence for 2021 & 2022 and formally worked as sports editor with the Westmeath Examiner newspaper.
